Apple is known as an innovator that constantly works to come up with new products and designs. Every now and then, we hear about patents from the iPhone maker for new product design, a new feature or a new product altogether.
Now, a new Apple patent has been unearthed talking of a radical iMac design. The patent – titled “Electronic Device with Glass Housing Member” – for radical iMac design was recently published by US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
As per the patent, Apple’s all-in-one desktop could come in the form of a single sheet of curved glass with an embedded display. The lower portion of the sheet is curved and it rests on the desk. Also, the lower part is used to hold input devices, while the upper flat part has an embedded display.
An electronic device may include a glass housing member that includes an upper portion defining a display area, a lower portion defining an input area, and a transition portion joining the upper portion and the lower portion and defining a continuous, curved surface between the upper portion and the lower portion
If Apple implements this design, it would be a much-needed change. Apple last updated iMac in March last year with powerful specs, but the external design was left untouched. Though iMac’s design is still classy and relevant, users now want something new.
And, what better than an iMac in a single sheet of glass. However, it is just a patent for now, and tech companies regularly file patents, but not all transform into a final product. Also, apart from this patent, there have been no rumors and reports of such an iMac design either.
We will update the article if there is any development related to this Apple patent for radical iMac design.
