Facebook which has faced severe flak regarding the security of the data of its users, is apparently working on a new security feature to unlock the app more securely.
According to a tweet from developer Jane Manchun Wong, this new Face ID feature of Facebook is under development and can be enabled right after the user leaves the Facebook app or after a particular duration.
Facebook Messenger is working on “Face ID” app lock
It can be enabled right after the user leave Messenger or after a duration
It seems Face ID will NOT be sent to, or stored by Facebook’s servers, according to the description shown in the screenshot
In fact, from the image attached to the tweet, users will have the option to use the Face ID feature after they leave messenger instantly or even after a duration of 1 hour.
Moreover, Wong also stated that the above feature is from an Android device and is not the Face ID feature found on Apple devices. In fact, Facebook would ultimately be required to change the name as it is patented by Apple itself.
What is more interesting is that it seems Face ID data will NOT be sent to, or stored by Facebook’s servers, according to the description shown in the screenshot above.
But, taking a closer look at the screenshot, the image shows some un-professional text, for instance, check the spelling of the word ‘reply’ as ‘replay’.
We cannot confirm anything until something concrete comes up or something official from Facebook reveals that indeed the company is working on this new security feature.
