WhatsApp Dark Mode finally makes a show in latest beta update

With the rise and prevalence of OLED and AMOLED displays, many are beginning to embrace the ‘dark side’. We have seen everyone from Apple to Google, and even other Android OEMs working on dark mode for their software.

The same has trickled down to App developers who have been optimizing their apps to obey and work well with system-wide dark modes. This is for any number of reasons, from aesthetics, user preferences or in pursuit of better battery endurance.

One player who has lagged behind in implementing dark mode is WhatsApp. For quite a while now, we have heard of rumors that the Facebook-owned app is working on a dark mode feature.

Well, finally, the feature has been spotted in WhatsApp’s latest Beta. Starting from WhatsApp version 2.20.13 beta, users now have the option to switch the entire WhatsApp UI on Android to Dark Mode.

You can also set WhatsApp to work with the system’s Dark Mode settings so it toggles from Dark Mode to Light with the system settings. And the results are…well, exactly what we’d have guessed.

As mentioned, this roll out is in its Beta stage. As such, it is available for users who are on WhatsApp’s Beta testing list. You can sign up for the Beta channel in Google Play Store by searching for WhatsApp and opting in.

However, if the Beta is closed, you can sideload the new Beta by downloading the APK file from a trusted vendor. We recommend APKMirror as they have a pretty good track record of hosting secure and APK files.
