Google came out with its latest OS for the year 2019, Android 10 back in September. As soon as it went live, smartphone OEMs got on to the bandwagon of delivering the Android 10 updates to their compatible devices.
Light skinned OEMs like OnePlus and Essential were able to deliver the update within a few days of the Android 10 release. On the other hand, OEMs that use heavy skins like One UI (Samsung), MIUI (Xiaomi), etc fell way behind.
In fact, Samsung has still not been able to push out a stable Android 10 updates for the majority of its phones. However, it has rolled out quite a few beta updates in the recent past.
And in a recent development, Galaxy S9 One UI 2.0 (Android 10) stable update might be delayed. Besides, it is receiving the latest January 2020 security patch based on Android 9 Pie.
Note that the Galaxy S9 has received a total of 6 One UI 2.0 beta updates, the last update bringing new camera features and bugfixes.
Matter of fact, the global variants of the Galaxy S9 got the January patchset with the One UI 2.0 beta 3 update. While the European variants of the Galaxy S9/S9+ got the December 2019 patch with build CSK4.
Cut to now, this new update brings January 2020 patchset with the build CTA1. Keep in mind that it is currently live for the users of Galaxy S9 on Bouygues network carrier in France. Moreover, it is expected that other regions might soon be served with this update.
We are not sure as to what these updates bring in for the devices. However, we were able to grab the update via the Frija tool.
This tool downloads the firmware file directly from the Samsung FUS (Firmware Update Server). You can read in-depth about the Frija tool by heading here.
PiunikaWeb readers should also remember that the Galaxy S9 grabbed the Wi-Fi alliance certification running on Android 10 pointing that the Android 10 update will soon arrive for the device.
We will keep you in the loop until we have more information in this regard.
