There were a few OEMs that were up on their toes to push the Android 10 update right away after its launch. And among those few, was Essential.
Not only this, Essential Phone are always in line to receive the latest security patchset as well. Besides, we reported back in December that the Essential Phone grabbed the December update timely.
To recall, Essential brought in its first generation of smartphones back in 2017 and the device has survived in this aggressive smartphone market for quite a long time.
However, the company finally announced that they are coming up with the 2nd generation of Essential Phone but although, it has teased and made rounds of the internet for a while, there are not much details available to spare.
But, if you are the owner of the Essential Phone then, there is a new year’s gift available as the OEM has pushed in the first update of the year for the device.
Notably, the update packs in the latest January 2020 security patchset for the Essential Phone. In fact, the update is not purely incremental in nature and also tags along some audio improvements for the device.
To recall, Essential Phone packs in Snapdragon 835, 4 GB of RAM, offers 128 GB of onboard storage, a 3,040 mAh battery, packs a dual 13 MP camera at the back, and a fingerprint scanner at the back.

Like always, the update is being pushed via OTA in batches and will take some time in hitting all the units. However, the users can check for the update by heading to Settings>>System>>Advanced>>System update.
