One of the best ways of organizing media libraries is using Plex. Recently, the company expanded its scope to cover media streaming services with the aim of taking on the likes of Roku Channel and Crackle, among others.

Plex streaming service has thousands of movies, TV shows, sports and music films/documentaries that can be streamed from over 200 countries globally, but since it’s free of charge, you will come across ads.

Sure, some of this content won’t be available in all markets globally, but Plex notes that most can be watched. To get going, create a free Plex account with no credit card or subscription fee attached anywhere.

Plex can be accessed from multiple platforms that include Android, iOS, and Smart TV platforms. But according to the latest developments, those using the Plex for Android app on Android TV units, more so the NVIDIA Shield TV, are experiencing an annoying issue with notifications.

Apparently, Plex on NVIDIA Shield TV keeps showing notifications for the most recently played title, with “Open” and “Stop” the only options to interact with the notifications.

Looking at the date in the screengrab above, it seems Plex on NVIDIA Shield TV has had this issue for some time now, but there are comments from affected users published a few hours ago, suggesting that it’s still not fixed.

When I finish watching something on Plex I’ll usually hit the back button rather than wait for the credits to end. This brings me to the content or home screen in Plex. From there, I’ll either hit back or the home button to go back to the Android home screen. I’ll turn off the TV and move on to something else. When I go back and turn on the TV, quite often there is a notification of the most recently played title saying that it’s still playing. There are buttons for “Open” and “Stop” and an animated icon suggesting that the media is actively playing.

What’s even more interesting about the Plex issue on NVIDIA Shield TVs is that notifications from the app keep showing up even if disabled from the Android TV settings.

At this point, it’s still unclear who is the culprit here, but regardless of whether its NVIDIA or Plex, we will keep an eye on future developments and update this story with news as and when we get them.

NOTE: There is more NVIDIA-related coverage here.
