Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite specs details surface & there's nothing "Lite" about this phone

Smartphone vendors have this tendency of releasing multiple variants of the same phone to cater to different user needs. There’s an entry-level model that usually gets the “Lite” tag, a standard model, and a premium model that mostly goes by the “Plus”, “Pro” or “Max” monikers.

Sure, not every OEM uses the same tags. Motorola, for instance, has “Play” on its entry-level models in a series of devices while Samsung, in the case of the S10 series, added an “E” to the entry-level model.

So, when the name Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite pops up, the first thing that comes to mind is the device has weaker specs and features compared to the rest of the Galaxy S10 series, perhaps even weaker than the Galaxy S10e.

But going by the latest developments, there doesn’t seem to be anything “Lite” about the upcoming Galaxy S10 Lite. Fresh from uncovering the official Galaxy Note 10 Lite photos, German publication WinFuture now has all the performance, camera, battery, and software details of the S10 Lite.

Apparently, the Galaxy S10 Lite will rock a massive 6.7-inch display screen. This will, of course, be a Super AMOLED panel with a hole-punch design akin to the Galaxy Note 10. The resolution is set at 2400 x 1080 pixels while the aspect ratio is 19.5:9.

We’ve heard reports that Samsung has plans to sell Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S11 handsets in more markets than before. To pilot this change is the Galaxy S10 Lite, which will reportedly come with the Snapdragon 855 chipset in European markets like Germany.

Interestingly, there won’t be an Exynos variant of the S10 Lite, which speaks volumes about how Samsung values the Qualcomm chipset over its in-house units. In terms of memory, 8GB RAM and 128GB of expandable internal storage are being touted, which makes it more powerful than the S10e.

In terms of photography, the back panel will reportedly come with four cameras: 48MP main shooter with hybrid optical image stabilization Samsung calls tilt-OIS; 12MP ultra-wide lens; and a 5MP macro-lens. The front has a 32MP unit for selfies.

Keeping the Galaxy S10 Lite alive will be a solid 4500mAh battery charged via a USB-C port with up to 45W fast charging supported. There is no mention of the 3.5mm audio jack, so we can’t be sure if Samsung has ditched it.

For the software, One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 runs the show out of the box. The phone measures 8.1mm thick and will come in black, white and blue paint jobs priced at €680, although prices could vary region-wise. We already knew about these pricing details, BTW.

The Galaxy S10 Lite is expected anytime before the end of the year, with reports pointing to December 27 as the launch date.
