As 2019 is coming to an end, Samsung is releasing software updates for each of its supported smartphones. Recently Samsung updated its two popular mid-range smartphones namely the Galaxy A70 and the Galaxy M30s.

Cut to now. The OEM’s two-generations old flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S8, is also receiving the December security patch.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S8 series of smartphones in Q1 of 2017. This flagship smartphone introduced the concept of low-bezel display, and it didn’t take much time for other smartphone makers to pick up this concept.

The global variant of the Galaxy S8 was powered by the Exynos 8895 CPU, while the US, Canada and China models of this smartphone were powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC. These two processors are still holding up pretty good by 2019 standards.

Furthermore, Galaxy S8 also offered drastic improvements in the camera department in comparison to the Galaxy S7.

Even though Samsung Galaxy S8 won’t get Android 10, Samsung is still rolling out monthly security patches for this device. The previous update with build number DSK9 brought the November patch for this device, while the latest update with built number DSL2 brings the December security patch.

In addition to the security patch, this update also comes with a new v6 bootloader. Consequently, if you update your Galaxy S8, you won’t be able to downgrade to the v5 bootloader. As a matter of fact, you won’t be able to install and use any build that’s based on the v5 bootloader.
