New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on December 16, 2019) follows:
OnePlus recently rolled out last month’s Android security patches to the OnePlus 7T, but the update was marred with a bizarre incident where some users receive a different firmware version from what is advertised in the announcement post.
More often than not, the standard OnePlus devices and their T variants receive software updates in one go. However, things have been a little different with respect to OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro.
When the standard 7T picked up its November patch over the weekend, the 7T Pro missed out. But as from today, owners of the latter device can finally install the November patch as OxygenOS 10.0.5, at least according to the official announcement post.
Below is a summary of the changelog attached to OxygenOS 10.0.5 update for the OnePlus 7T Pro:
System
- Improved the launching speed of some apps
- Optimized the RAM Management
- Fixed the black and white screen issues with some apps
- Fixed black lines on the screen while charging the device
- Improved system stability and general bug fixes
- Updated Android security patch to 2019.11
Camera
- Improved the photo quality
It’s a little disappointing that the OnePlus 7T Pro is only picking up its November patch in mid-December. Hopefully, OnePlus will catch up with the likes of Samsung in rolling out timely security patches.
While at it, the company should fix the mess with software update version numbers. As noted, owners of the standard 7T got the November patch with different firmware version numbers compared to what was advertised. This is also happening for OnePlus 7T Pro owners.
Rather than hit their units as the advertised OxygenOS 10.0.5, some OnePlus 7T Pro units (model HD1911) are receiving the update as OxygenOS 10.3.0, but with the same changelog.
Interestingly, those on models HD1910 running the global ROM are receiving this same update as it should, that is, OxygenOS 10.0.5. FYI, the previous October patch arrived as OxygenOS 10.0.4, so there is no way the newer November patch can get an out of the track version 10.3.0.
Version number confusion aside, the OnePlus 7T Pro will receive this update over the air. This means some units will receive it ahead of others, so stay patient as you wait for your turn.
Update (December 18)
Well, we have an official statement regarding the version number jump.
Update: The Oxygen OS 10.3.0 is not a typo. This version number is specific for India.
Other regions should see the 10.0.5 update. There is no issue with the versions numbers, so there is no reason why you shouldn’t install the update.
