The first Xiaomi Mi Note device arrived in early 2015 posing as a competitor to the then phablet king Samsung Galaxy Note 4 thanks to the massive 5.7-inch panel that was just so big at the time.
Owing to its dotted success, Xiaomi had to wait until late 2016 to refresh its Note series by seizing the chance presented by the Galaxy Note 7 disaster. The Chinese company even tried to go with a design that resembled the Note 7, but still, luck wasn’t on its side.
Still, Xiaomi didn’t give up and about a year later, the Mi Note 3 was unveiled. But to further justify the poor performance of the Mi Note series, the wait for the Note 3’s successor came all the way to November 2019.
For some reason, perhaps to match the naming of the Galaxy Note 10, Xiaomi went with Mi Note 10 as the name for the device succeeding the Mi Note 3. Soon after it was announced, we captured the device’s first official MIUI 11 firmware.
As the Mi Note 10 found its way into more people’s hands, reports of issues related to the proximity sensor started showing up. We have cases dating back to about a month ago and others as recent as this week on this Mi Note 10 proximity issue.
Hi everyone, I am a Xiaomi owner, I note 10, and from the first day that the proximity sensor does not work on a regular basis, I contacted the representative of my city and he told me that it is a problem on the software level and that for fix the problem expects an update that today has not arrived, it is already becoming an unbearable thing I do not know how much longer I have to wait.

As you can see from the statement above (translated from Italian using Google Translate), the Mi Note 10 proximity issues are software related and that Xiaomi promised to fix them via an update.
Apparently, the incoming Mi Note 10 update to MIUI 11.0.11.0 has the fix for this bug. Initially, the update was rolling out as MIUI 11.0.10.0 but the rollout was halted only to resume as V11.0.11.0.
With the latest update EEA v11.0.11.0 it seems that the sensor works better, at least in WhatsApp audios, calls have always worked well for me.
