Nokia is back in the mobile industry and doing it right this time. Nokia devices strike a rather decent balance between price and features. However, their biggest selling point today, other than their stellar build quality, is Android One.

Android One is basically stock Android. Well, not quite. It is as close to vanilla Android as possible. This means no unnecessary features, no heavy skins on top of Android and best of all, no unwanted bloatware.

Nokia phones offer a clean Android without many of the bells and whistles that other phone makers insist on cramming onto their devices. The system being that light, means you get a rather decent experience without needing the latest and greatest internals. This also means that updates are also faster to roll out since there isn’t that much tinkering to be done. And Nokia has been nailing this.

Nokia devices are some of the most updated devices in the market right now. We have seen the November security update roll out to Nokia devices across the board, such as Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 7.1 & Nokia 7 Plus.

Which only makes more sense that the Nokia 8 Sirocco is getting the latest Android Security Patch. The OEM is rolling out the November patch update to their first Android One flagship.

The update weighs in at a little over 93 MB so it is safe to assume that it is the typical monthly security patch. This update carries the software version 4.14I.

  • Device: Nokia 8 Sirocco
  • Channel: Global Stable
  • Version: 4.14I
  • Android: 9
    • Type: Recovery

It is worth noting that the update is being rolled out via OTA, which is often rolled out in batches. So, it might take some time for this update to hit your devices. However, you can always check it manually by heading to Settings>>About Phone>>System Updates>>Check for updates.

Android 10

Nokia’s roadmap to Android 10 has been available for quite a while now. With most Nokia phones running Android One, it wasn’t surprising that HMD was quick to make public its Android 10 release plans.

Nokia 9 PureView will get the update soon, while Nokia 8.1 already picked up the (somewhat buggy) Android 10 build.

Nokia 8 Sirocco is scheduled to get the update to Android 10 in Q1 of 2020. The update will also be pushed to the Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2, Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 2.2, Nokia 1 Plus, and Nokia 5.1 Plus. So Nokia lovers, keep calm and wait for the OS to cook.

Android One devices are usually guaranteed at least two Android OS updates. The fact that the first-gen Nokia phones weren’t even Android One devices means HMD has, in fact, done an exceptional job giving the devices two OS upgrades.
