As MIUI is not tightly coupled with the Android version, the design allows Xiaomi to provide updates for legacy devices for quite a long time. In fact, their budget oriented phones are not ignored in this venture. For example, 2017’s entry level Redmi 5A recently picked up stable MIUI 11 update.
Talking about older phones, the Chinese OEM also delivered the long-anticipated MIUI 11 OTA for Redmi Note 4 – a phone released during the first quarter of 2017. While they didn’t upgrade the Android layer, a new quote of paint is certainly nice.
Interestingly, the Snapdragon 625 inside Redmi Note 4 is pretty capable in terms of OS support. Keeping aside the Android One phones, even Redmi Y2 (known as Redmi S2 outside India) with the same chipset runs received Oreo update. Redmi 6 Pro, another SD625 powered phone, now runs Pie.
Stable MIUI 11 update for Redmi Y2 started to appear at the beginning of this month. Although we captured the OTA, Xiaomi apparently paused the rollout process for some unknown reasons.
Sounds like the Redmi Note 5 Pro story? I have to agree with you, as the phone maker is now delivering a new build of MIUI 11 with October security patch for the global as well as Indian units of Redmi Y2/S2. The version number gets a tiny bump; from V11.0.1.0.PEFMIXM to V11.0.2.0.PEFMIXM.

Another phone from the same generation is reportedly getting the stable MIUI 11 update. We are talking about Redmi 4 (also sold under Redmi 4X moniker in some countries).
Some of our readers should remember that the same phone grabbed the update in China merely a week ago. Well, now time for the global rollout.
There is no point in repeating the changelog as Redmi 4’s one is a subset of the above. As you can see, the build is based on Android Nougat. Moreover, there is no improvement in the security patch level.
I like to thank my friend yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for tracking the OTA update URLs.
