Good news if you are the owner of Galaxy S8 because it is receiving a new security update that also brings in some camera enhancements. Notably, this new update serves the device with October security patch (sadly! no November patchset).

Moreover, talking about the October security update, it fixes a lot of severe vulnerabilities for Android devices. You can read in more detail about the security patch by heading to the Android security bulletin.

To recall, the Galaxy S8 was Samsung’s 2017 flagship device, that pack in Snapdragon 835/ Exynos 8895 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and offered 64 GB of onboard storage.

Under the hood, it sports a 3,000 mAh battery and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well. At the back, you get a single 12 MP camera and an 8 MP selfie shooter.

Coming back to the update, it bumps the version number from DSI1 to DSJC. The update is not purely an incremental security update as it also tags along some camera enhancements as well.

Previously, the Exynos variant of Galaxy S8 has already been served with the October security update back in October. Below is the official changelog and the screenshot of the same:

Changelog:

· The stability of Camera has been improved.

Notably, the update is based on Android 9 Pie and it is highly unlikely that either the Galaxy S8 or the Note 8 will get the Android 10 with One UI 2.0 update from Samsung as they have already received two major Android (Nougat>>Oreo>>Pie) updates.

Keep in mind the update is being rolled out via OTA in batches and will take some time in hitting all the units. Though you can always check for the update by heading to System>>Software Updates>>Download updates manually.

However, we were able to grab the update using the handy tool named Frija. It downloads the firmware directly from Samsung’s Firmware Update Server (FUS) and has features like automatic decryption and bundle creation.

The update grabbed from Frija weighs in about 3.9 GB in size for which we would recommend downloading it using a stable internet connection.

Happy installing!
