Xiaomi’s smartphone business excels on the principle of affordability. The company churns out numerous smartphones yearly, some rocking nearly all the things that make the likes of Samsung and Huawei charge premiums of $1000 and beyond for their phones.

However, not everyone who buys a Xiaomi phone has affordability in mind. Others do so for their ease of bootloader unlocking for modding purposes, although their affordable price tags also play some part here.

In addition to Google Pixels and OnePlus devices, Xiaomi has the best devices out there for anyone who is looking to try other Android experiences with custom ROMs like LingeageOS, Pixel Experience, and so on.

Lineageos

For those who picked up any of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1/Poco F1, Xiaomi Mi 8 or Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and ended up with LineageOS 16.0 installed, you must have noted something weird since the update to build 20191107 and subsequent builds 08, 09 and 10.

When you prompt to unlock the phone, the screen turns black instead of lighting up so that you can proceed with authentication to unlock it. The fingerprint doesn’t work either, meaning you are locked out.

Since the black screen bug started showing up with the update to LineageOS 16.0 build number 20191107 and newer, downgrading to build number 20191106 and below addresses this issue for now.

There is a problem with builds 20191107, 08, 09 & 10 for those devices: the screen does not turn on after it’s turned off. Get build 20191106 or build 20191105 ASAP before it’s removed from the LineageOS servers to make space for new builds or use older builds instead until it’s fixed.

Even better is that the maintainer of the LineageOS 16.0 ROM for the Poco F1, Mi 8 and Mi MIX 2S has already picked up the issue and confirmed that a fix is coming as part of the new builds probably beginning with version 20191112.

For those who had not updated to any of the affected LineageOS builds, be sure to stick there at least until the patched-up versions come out. Meanwhile, the links below should direct affected users to the LineageOS 16.0 download page to grab the version that still works.

FYI, LineageOS 17.0 based on Android 10 is already out for some devices, albeit unofficially.

A techy. Besides phones, I also enjoy the farm, music, football, and, of course, food.
