EMUI 10 is the skinned version of Android 10 for Huawei and Honor phones. It is under heavy testing at this moment, in anticipation of an official rollout in the next couple of weeks.
The Chinese tech giant opened up a public beta testing program for a handful of devices, (the list is gradually expanding) before broadly rolling out the long-anticipated update.
Last week, the Huawei P30 and the P30 Pro got a mysterious update that we thought might be in preparation for EMUI 10. These devices were expected to get EMUI 10 based on the Android 10 update by November.
However, probably in line with this, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro users have reported that a mysterious new update started to hit their device and get installed automatically.
And they have a reason to believe so. Huawei P30 and P30 Pro owners were the first batch to receive the invitation to try out the 10th iteration of EMUI outside of the lab environment in the first public Beta.
This was shortly after the Chinese event where the global beta recruitment went live back in early September. If everything is on course, chances are we should see the first official rollout of EMUI 10 to these two.
The OEM has already published a detailed changelog for the initial Android 10 based EMUI 10 beta update for P30/P30 Pro. They also shared a list of incompatible apps so that end-users could verify potential issues before jumping on the bandwagon.
Users started to receive the beta update a few weeks after the announcement. However, owners of Huawei P30/P30 Pro are now receiving the October security update with build number 9.1.0.240.
Many thought that this update would be the final build of Android 10-powered EMUI 10. But that does not seem to be the case. Matter of fact, it is a direct jump from the August patch level in the stable channel. The September patch was made available via beta, but most regions skipped it.
The changelog of this new update is pretty much generic; – improve system security with Android security patches. Well, clearly not Android 10. Huawei even pushed two consecutive OTAs in some places; first with the September patches, then the October one.
The Android 10-based EMUI 10 update for the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro is expected to begin rolling out in November. We might as well assume that this security update is the last build before the rollout of EMUI 10 to these devices.
A quick scroll through forums will show you just how much owners of these devices are looking forward to this update.
Since its inception, the Huawei P-series of smartphones has always been more inclined towards providing users the best possible camera experience. The P30 and P30 Pro, despite being almost a year old at this point, still go blow-for-blow with the best camera phones today.
That only goes to show the level of engineering that Huawei puts into these devices.
