LG recently updated its software support page to reveal its software update plans for Q4 2019. Top of the company’s list, as we found out yesterday, was to push the LG V20 Android Pie update in Korea and indeed, the OS is now rolling out in the region.

LG’s software update plans also revealed that Android 10 will be pushed to the LG G8 ThinQ in its stable form this quarter. The device recently started testing the OS as part of the company’s new Android 10 Preview program in Korea.

The company also promised to bring the same Android 10 Preview program to the LG V50 ThinQ this month, which means the rollout should begin anytime from today.

Note that you must submit your interest to try Android 10 on your V50 ThinQ via the Quick Help app on your phone and if accepted, you should receive an OTA update that installs the new OS. Some of the new features included are dark mode, navigation gestures, and more.

Some of the new LG-inspired features that first shipped with the LG V50S ThinQ in Korea like menu tabs and pop-ups at the bottom of the screen for easier access are also included in the upcoming LG V50 ThinQ Android 10 update.

Besides the update to Android 10 beta, LG has also started rolling out a minor software update to the V50 ThinQ in Korea. The update mostly focuses on improving the usability of the Dual Screen feature that comes with the phone.

According to an LG blogpost, the incoming LG V50 ThinQ update has a number of new features as listed below. Note that Google Translate was involved in translating from Korean, so things might not be as perfect in English.

– App-specific volume adjustment to allow individual adjustment of app volume when running different apps on the V50 ThinQ and dual screens.
– Allows resizing of app icons even when combined with a dual-screen, such as resizing screen content.
– “Your Gamepad” feature that allows you to create gamepads according to game type and customer preferences.
– “Extended Mode” allows viewing of two screens as one big screen.

The “Extended Mode” and “Your Gamepad” features are part of the second-generation LG Dual Screen that users of the LG G8X ThinQ must already be aware of. Apparently, these features and the entire user experience of the new Dual Screen are coming to the V50 ThinQ as part of this update.

LG has also added what it calls Mirror Mode to the front camera, a feature that lets you capture shots like a mirrorless camera with the dual-screen flipped 360 degrees. Gallery expansion, according to LG, will arrive later this year as part of the LG V50 ThinQ Android 10 update.

In its Q4 2019 software update plans, LG had also mentioned that the V50 ThinQ will receive an update with improvements to 5G roaming, but we don’t know if this will also be part of the V50 ThinQ Android 10 update.

Once again, the LG V50 ThinQ update currently rolling out has only been confirmed for the Korean market. While we expect it to be released to the global unit, we don’t know when the rollout will begin. Not long ago, Verizon pushed the October patch to this device in the U.S.

We will keep an eye on it and update this post when the update arrives.
