SwiftKey Keyboard is one of the most popular third-party keyboards on Android. The Microsoft-owned keyboard app has been downloaded more than 100M times in the Google Play Store alone, which speaks volumes about the kind of attachment people have to this app.

Microsoft acquired the SwiftKey Keyboard app in 2016, but fans had to wait until 2018 before the Windows OS maker pushed the first significant update to version 7.0 that brought features like stickers, a new toolbar, and more.

There are many reasons to stick with the SwiftKey Keyboard app, including its ability to adapt to your way of typing and further providing personalized predictions, multilingual typing, and the included support for over 800 emojis.

However, it is the app’s ability to sync across multiple devices that makes it one of the best out there. Maybe you don’t change phones that often like some of us do, but wait until you get a new smartphone and you have to start from scratch with word predictions.

It’s quite a bummer, if you ask me, but with the SwiftKey Keyboard, this isn’t something that should concern you. The app lets you store your personalized language settings and the typing experience, which can then be carried over to the new device without any changes.

Of course, for this to work, the SwiftKey Keyboard comes with a Backup & Sync service that can be enabled/disabled via the Settings > Account menu. And apparently, some users of the app are now reporting that this service is broken on their Android devices, some for weeks.

When the app is re-installed, you can restore your usage data from the backup service. However, affected users say their data is missing despite showing the data sync is done, including data that could initially be accessed via the web browser.

Not even logging out and in again, clearing the data/cache or even uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixes the SwiftKey data sync issue, but according to Microsoft, the remedy here is to update to the latest version of the keyboard app.

Hi everybody, Microsoft understands that there are some users having difficulty signing into their SwiftKey Account. The Backup & Sync service has been updated and requires users to be on the latest version. If you haven’t done so already. please download the latest SwiftKey update available in the Google Play Store. Your SwiftKey Keyboard will continue to learn words and phrases that matter to you. SwiftKey will continue to learn as you type and personalize your language model appropriately. However, please remember this excludes passwords, credit card numbers and other such sensitive information. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Apparently, the Backup & Sync service has been updated only to work with the latest version of the SwiftKey Keyboard app, so basically an update to the new version should fix this. So far, we cannot confirm that this has worked for those affected.

Feel free to join in the conversation in the comments section below regarding whether updating to the latest version fixes the SwiftKey data sync issue on your end or not.
