This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from Oct 14) follows:
Kik – a messaging mobile app from the Canadian company Kik Interactive- has been going through a rough patch and the media has very well highlighted every bit about the service’s shutdown that was confirmed by CEO Ted Livingston themselves.
Despite having a user base of millions, Kik was to bid adieu so that the company could reinforce their legal battle against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Kik X beta was to breathe its last on September 27 (2019), followed by the complete service’s termination on October 19, as the company was to pull the plugs on that particular day.
But things somehow changed before the service’s closure – in a positive direction this time.
Couple of weeks after announcing the shutdown, CEO Ted took to Twitter to give the users a ray of hope stating the company might manage to save the service by transferring its ownership, though things were still in limbo. That was sure a sigh of relief for Kik’s humongous userbase.
Some exciting news: we may have found a home for Kik! We just signed an LOI with a great company. They want to buy the app, continue growing it for our millions of users, and take the Kin integration to the next level. Not a done deal yet, but could be a great win win. More soon
Cut to now. Looks like, whatever ifs and buts were there have now been ironed out, considering few hours back, Kik’s official Twitter handle shared the good news saying they’re here to stay, and have in fact got some exciting plans for enhancing the application.
Great news: Kik is here to stay!!!!AND there’s some really exciting plans for making the app even better. More details coming soon. Stay tuned. ????????????????????????
This surely must be music to ears of Kik users who got disheartened after the shutdown declaration. It won’t be wrong saying Kik ain’t going anywhere (at least for the time being, unless things change for worse). However, how things turn out in future, we all will have to wait to see that.
Needless to say, we’ll keep you posted with relevant developments on the matter, as and when they come to our notice. For the time being, you can settle with the happy news that “Kik is here to stay”.
