New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 30, 2019) follows:

By now you probably know about Google’s Android One program. If not, here’s a brief lowdown.

It started out in 2014 with the aim of bringing a near-stock version of Android OS to entry-level devices in emerging markets with no access to Nexus phones back then and Pixel phones of today.

Only a handful of smartphones run Android One, probably because Google doesn’t allow companies to alter the software to their liking as this might interfere with the brand’s promise of two Android OS updates and regular security updates for three years.

Nokia 9 PureView is a high-end Android One device

Today, the Android One program has evolved to include multiple mid-range and even a few high-end smartphones to go with, but it couldn’t get any better than HMD Global’s announcement that all Nokia phones will be based on Android One, excluding the few that run Android Go.

Having just made a return into the smartphone market, Nokia needed something to spur its sales and what better than Android One. This route has made Nokia the best company when it comes to rolling out software updates ahead of Samsung and co. and is expected to get even better with Android 10.

At the center of all this, though, a section of Nokia 3.2 users in Europe are not the happiest lot. Apparently, the device has been stuck on older security patch levels, some as old as April 2019, the preinstalled version. Not even manually checking for the update does the trick.

Hello, why my phone never received any updates? I also check manually almost everyday but there is never any update for it.

Some affected users have contacted Nokia only to be taken through the usual troubleshooting procedure of clearing the cache, rebooting in safe mode, and so on, but no solution yet. So far, the issue has been reported by Nokia 3.2 users with models TA-1156 and TA-1164.

I am in the same situation as topicstarter Luca. I have a Nokia 3.2 TA-1156 that was bought new in The Netherlands early september (just the device, unlocked, without any connection to a carrier or cell phone company). It came with Android Security Patch 1 april 2019 and has never received any updates. Everytime I check the device it says it is fully up to date.

Today I just received a brand new Nokia 3.2 with an build number 00EEA_1_39D from July 2019. And now guess what happened. I cannot receive any newer update. I am really upset right now.

Interestingly, the official Nokia 3.2 software support page shows the September 2019 patch level as the latest security update. However, this is for the global model (00WW) and not the European model (00EEA) that is the subject of this article.

Nokia hasn’t responded to this development yet, so we will keep an eye on it and update this post when we get the news. What would be better, though, is for the company to fix the issue and make regular security updates a thing again for Nokia 3.2 users in Europe.

Update (November 1)

According to reports just coming in, affected Nokia 3.2 users in Europe are now receiving new software updates, up to the September security patch. The update is for TA-1164 and TA-1156 models having the 00EEA firmware.

You may receive several OTA updates depending on which security patch level you were stuck on. Once you install one update, make sure to restart the phone in order to receive the other update, otherwise, you won’t get it.

Just so you know, the Nokia 3.2 September update in Europe is arriving as version 00EEA_1_39D_SP02 and yeah, it is still based on Pie.
