Samsung is not known for the speedy delivery of updates. Matter of fact the Korean OEM has yet to push out the beta updates for the latest Android 10 on its compatible devices.
Moreover, there are several Samsung devices that need to get ticked off from the roll-out list of the October 2019 security patch. But, in recent development. The U.S. unlocked variants of the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note 8 have reportedly started receiving the October 2019 update.
Previously, we have reported that the international Exynos variant of the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 have already received the latest October patch. Not only this, the carrier branded edition of the latter got a similar update (albeit different build) as well.
Besides, taking a look at the Android Security Update plan of Samsung, the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 are placed under the “Current Models for Monthly Security Updates” section and are entitled to receive the monthly updates.
Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+
Now coming to the update received on the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, it carries the build number G950U1OYM6DSJ1 and is still based on the Android 9 Pie. Note that the official tracker for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ has not yet been updated.
Below is the official changelog:
Changelog:
- The security of your device has been improved.
Note that the update is purely incremental in nature and does not add or bring anything new for the Galaxy S8 smartphone. However, if you wish to download the update manually then, use something like Frija.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Galaxy Note 8, is probably the “cursed device” as it won’t be getting the Android 10 update from Samsung, even though it is capable. To recall, the device launched with the Android Nougat and just after 1 month it was served with the then-latest Android Oreo.
A year later, Note 8 was hit with the Android 9 Pie OS completing its 2-year cycle of receiving the Android OS upgrades. Note that Samsung promises only 2 years of firmware updates for its devices.
But, that is a matter of another topic. Now talking about the latest update, it brings in the 2019-10-01 security patch level and is purely incremental in nature.
Below is the official changelog and the screenshot of the tracker:
Changelog:
- The security of your device has been improved.
Note that the update for both the Snapdragon powered devices has been pushed via OTA and will take some in hitting the devices. But, you can check for the updates manually by heading to System>>Software Updates>>Download updates manually.
Happy installing!
