Wrist-worn devices have seen sharp growth due to the current lifestyle of people. You can use smartwatches or fitness bands to keep your health in check and also improve your day-to-day habits.
People are becoming aware of the importance of their health, and this reflects in the numbers as well. According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker data, shipments of wrist-worn gadgets (including smartwatches, smart bands, etc) have reached 34.2 million units in Q2 2019. This is up by 28.8% YoY compared to Q2 2018.
Moreover, this is the other segment apart from smartphones that excites the tech fraternity. And acknowledging this, Sprint has finally brought in the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 on board. Not only this the device now supports standalone VoLTE as well.
For a refresher, the Galaxy Watch Active2 was launched in September 2019 and comes in two variants i.e. 44mm and 40mm. The device packs in a 1.4-inch and 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ respectively.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Watch Active2 is powered by a 340 mAh battery on 44mm and 247 mAh battery on the 40mm variant. The LTE and Bluetooth-only variants have 1.5 GB and 768 MB RAM, respectively.
The Galaxy Watch Active2 also sports features like sleep/stress monitoring, heart monitoring, Samsung Pay, Samsung Health, etc. Moreover, the device now officially supports the standalone LTE connectivity which was long-awaited.
Reacting to this, one user on Reddit pointed out an issue that when in standalone LTE the watch does not show VoLTE. While other users commented that the standalone LTE works full along with data as well.
However, one thing to note is that we previously reported that Sprint is evaluating the options of LTE standalone on the original Galaxy Watch.
The company had stated that they are testing the VoLTE on real conditions. Matter of fact, the original Samsung Galaxy Watch did not support LTE standalone.
However, it is speculated that the Galaxy Watch will get the LTE standalone functionality pretty soon. Moreover, one self-proclaimed Sprint employee commented that the update is due to arrive on 29 November 2019 which was disclosed to the user by a Samsung rep.
