Samsung might introduce native accent color changing option with One UI 2.0 (Android 10) update

Samsung recently started testing One UI 2.0 update on the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e, and Galaxy S10+ in Korea, Germany, the U.S., and India, with France, Poland, Spain, the UK, and China expected to join in the fun over the next few days or weeks for that matter.

Besides all the goodies that come with Android 10, Samsung’s One UI 2.0 update is also expected to bring a flurry of in-house tweaks to the current Android-Pie based One UI 1.1 as well as plenty of new features to go with.

Early adopters of Android 10 beta on the Galaxy S10 devices are already talking up some of the new features to expect when the stable version arrives. It’s not known when Samsung will be ready to release the stable version, but it could possibly happen before the end of next month.

It took Samsung about a month and a half to try One UI 1.0 beta on the Galaxy S9 and release the stable version. If all factors remain unchanged, the stable Galaxy S10 One UI 2.0 update should begin rolling towards the end of next month or in early December.

When the stable version arrives, it’s possible that One UI could finally get a native option to play around with accent color, just like Google did with the Pixels following the update to Android 10.

This is a feature that has been requested on several occasions by Samsung fans through various platforms. So far, the only workaround of achieving this change involves using the powerful Good Lock app available in the Galaxy Store.

Hello, it’s me with another feature request. A feature that Samsung phones need is an accent color feature. It’s a feature that lets you choose the color of buttons, menus, etc. It’s like choosing a color theme for your phone. There are some Android companies who put the feature on their phones, but Samsung doesn’t, and I don’t know why.

Just recently got my S10 and I love the night/dark mode, however, I would love to change the blue accent that appears on the notification panel. Is there a way to customize these accents apart from completely using another theme that doesn’t work with night/dark mode?

Despite having it on the stable version of Android 10, Google Pixel users still have to dig out the feature from the Developer options, opening up room to change accent colors of your icons to any of the eight different options available.

The story isn’t so different for Samsung, where the native option to change accent color is still buried in the Developer options. But unlike Google, Galaxy S10 users can’t use this setting to change the accent color of icons just yet.

To access the Developer options, go to System > About phone > Software info and tap on build number several times.

Digging through the beta and not sure if this has been posted before but in the dev options at the very bottom there’s a section titled “Theming.” Unfortunately it seems to be disable as selecting an accent color does nothing.

The Redditor who made this little discovery says the feature is disabled at the moment, but the fact that its there means Samsung has it in mind. As for whether it will actually arrive as part of the One UI 2.0 update remains to be seen, but hopefully, it does.
