It has been a long time since any Sony smartphone grabbed the attention of tech enthusiasts. However, Sony is known to bring in some new features and design elements into its smartphones.

For instance, the Xperia 1 is first in the segment to offer an ultra-long 21:9 cinematic display. But, even after such features, Sony devices just could not make any impact on the already competitive smartphone market.

Besides, the lack of the addition of new devices in the portfolio is also one of the major reasons for the downfall of Sony in the smartphone market.

However, this does not seem to put any pressure on the company as recently, Sony unveiled the Sony Xperia 5 that features a triple camera setup along with the 21:9 CinemaWide display.

Moreover, in a recent development, a new software update has also been made available for the Xperia 5 smartphone in specific regions. Note that this is the first update that the Xperia 5 will be receiving after its launch.

Talking about updates, Sony has pushed out a new security update for the Xperia L2 which was launched in 2018. It bumps the security patch level from August 2019 to the latest one. Let us take a look at the updates one by one:

Sony Xperia 5

The new update for the Xperia 5 carries the version number 55.0.A.7.115 and 55.0.A.7.100. Note that the v55.0.A.7.100 is for the demo units only while the v55.0.A.7.115 is for the non-branded models.

Recently, we have also reported that Sony has made the Xperia 5 kernel source code available. With the help of it, the modders and developers can bring in tweaks and mods for the Xperia 5 smartphone.

For specs buffs, the Xperia 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM and offers up to 512GB of internal storage. Under the hood, the device packs in a 3140 mAh battery as well as IP65/68 certification for water resistance.

It sports a 21:9 aspect ratio cinematic display and a triple 12MP+12MP+12MP camera setup at the back. In the front, you get an 8MP shooter.

However, note that the official changelog and the size of the update are not known yet. Previously, the device received its August security update timely in August.

The updates will be made available for the respective devices via OTA in batches. However, it will take some time to reach all the devices.
