HMD Global’s Nokia 8.1 was among the devices that took part in the early beta testing of Android Q before Google surprised the Android world with Android 10 – without the dessert thingy.
Not long ago, the company hinted that the Nokia 8.1 Android 10 update would be released soon in all of its stable glory.
The device took the mantle over from the Nokia 7 Plus that took part in the early Android P beta testing the previous year. Being an Android One device, the wider assumption was that the Nokia 8.1 Android 10 update would be among the first to roll out after Google Pixels.
However, it is only now that HMD has started rolling out Android 10 to the device having been beaten by Essential and OnePlus. Still, it couldn’t go without mentioning a first for the Nokia 8.1.
Android 10 upgrade for Nokia 8.1 starts today! First on SD710 to bring new features such as Dark theme, Gesture Navigation and more. (Source)
The Nokia 8.1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, which indeed makes it the first with this processor to receive the stable update to Android 10. The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL were the first non-Snapdragon 800 series devices to get the update.
The OTA update weighs in at close to 1.5GB and is arriving as version V4.15B, so be sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network to make the switch to the new OS. The update tags along a system-wide dark mode, smart reply, gesture navigation, and many other nifty Android 10 features.
The Nokia 8.1 Android 10 update has just started rolling out. Usually, OTA updates can take several days before reaching all units, so be patient as you wait for the download notification to arrive on your end.
Nokia 2 V October security update arrives
Verizon users of the Nokia 2 V are now able to download and install the most up-to-date security update for the month of October 2019. Interestingly, the incoming Nokia 8.1 Android 10 update carries an older September security patch.
The Nokia 2 V is a variant of the Nokia 2.1 and since the latter will be upgraded to Android 10 in Q2 2020, it’s also likely that Verizon will push the OS upgrade to its model at around the same time.
As for now, the new October security update is arriving as version 00WW_1_13E and is the device’s sixth ever on the carrier, which has hardly skipped to roll out any since launch.
Being an airborne update that has just started rolling out, you may have to wait for a few days before the download notification arrives on your device.
