The release of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus dates back to September 2015. Recently, Apple officially acknowledged that some devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between October 2018 to August 2019 may not power on due to a component that may fail.

Apple didn’t provide further insights on the issue, although the OEM encourages users who have experienced this ‘no power’ issue to check the serial no. to find out if their unit is eligible for free repair.

It’s strictly mentioned on the website, only iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are a part of the program and no other model is eligible. This is indeed strange, coming from a brand like Apple hearing about manufacturing defects, but this is not new with iPhones.

Earlier, similar display replacement program for iPhone X was doing rounds in the media. Basically, the display, or part of the display, was found not responding or responded intermittently to touches, also the display reacted sometimes even though it was not touched.

And this time, it’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with a different problem though. There are three processes of availing the free repair program, as mentioned on the official page for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models-

Additionally, Apple may restrict or limit repair to the original country or region of purchase. If the device is eligible for free repair. However, if a user has already got the device repaired, provided the device was affected by the issue mentioned, Apple is willing to issue a refund.

Lastly, the program doesn’t extend the warranty of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, but it covers affected iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit.
