Paranoid Android 10 custom ROM arrives on Redmi K20/Mi 9T, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 6 & 6T

Xiaomi Mi 9T and Redmi K20 owners in the house who enjoy tinkering their devices probably know a thing or two about the recent availability of Paranoid Android custom ROM for the devices.

The update was first made available in August 2019 as a beta version of its Android 9 Pie ROM released earlier this year. As you’d expect, it brought a flurry of Pie-based features to the devices alongside some inhouse spicing.

If you enjoyed having the Pie beta ROM on your Redmi K20 or Mi 9T, you’d definitely also want a taste of the latest stuff from Paranoid Android. Granted, you’ll be happy to learn that both devices are now aboard the latest Paranoid Android 10 custom ROM.

The Paranoid Android ROM developer once went off the radar before resurfacing last year with an Oreo ROM. With the Pie ROM already out there, your guess has been as good as mine – that Paranoid Android ROM based on Android 10 is next in line.

In an official blog post, Paranoid Android has announced its first alpha build based on Android 10 for five smartphones. The aforementioned Redmi K20 and Xiaomi Mi 9T alongside OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, no room for the standard OnePlus 7 or the Redmi K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro.

Current devices receiving an alpha build are:

– OnePlus 7 Pro
– OnePlus 6T
– OnePlus 6
– Xiaomi Mi 9T
– Redmi K20
– Xperia Tama Platform

The developer says the download links will be shared on their Twitter account, so be sure to follow them. For those using OnePlus 7 Pro or Redmi K20/Mi 9T, check out the XDA threads below to grab the ROM already.

Alongside announcing the new Paranoid Android 10 alpha build, the developer also had some other interesting news. In line with Google’s changes to the Android naming scheme that saw the search giant ditch dessert names, Paranoid Android is also getting a new naming scheme of its own.

From now on, new Paranoid Android ROMs will be named after rocks and minerals. Yea, you read that right and to kick us off is Paranoid Android Quartz based on Android 10. Or maybe Paranoid Android 10 Quartz. No, let’s just stick with Paranoid Android 10, shall we?

With the latest release of Android, Google dropped its naming for deserts. This quirkiness is something that is admired in the Android community and we have taken upon ourselves to continue in the fashion. Many ideas were thrown around by the team and we have decided to go with a theme of rocks and minerals for our future releases. In this case for 10/Q we are going with Quartz. We hope we can continue to have fun with this and have some more surprises along this vein that we’re looking forward to announcing.

Another interesting announcement made in the blog post is the welcoming of a new team from CypherOS to form a relatively bigger team. This is the reason they’ve been able to roll out the latest Paranoid Android 10 update to multiple devices this quick and hopefully, for a better future.

As you may have guessed, this is just the beginning. More devices will slowly creep into the program as the year progresses, but we still don’t know which ones. Still, my guess is that the aforementioned OnePlus 7 and Redmi K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro shouldn’t be too far away.
