OnePlus 7T first software update improves display, camera & sound effects during calls

OnePlus might not be as big as the Samsungs and Huaweis of this world, but the Chinese device maker is one of the best at what it does.

On top of churning out some great pieces of hardware in the shape of OnePlus 7 Pro and more recently, OnePlus 7T, the company also does a pretty impressive job keeping these devices up to date with regular software updates, major and minor.

The company recently became one of the first non-Google device makers to push a stable Android 10 update to its devices. Of course, Essential stands out in this regard, but it took OnePlus less than three weeks to bring Android 10 to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

While not all OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro units have received the update to Android 10 as I write this, the fact that its already out there speaks volumes about the company’s commitment to releasing timely software updates to its devices.

Such is OnePlus timeliness to release software updates that the company is already rolling out a new software update to the newly released OnePlus 7T well ahead of the device’s global availability.

Folks in Europe will be able to purchase one of these beginning October 10 while T-Mobile is set to stock the 7T from October 18. As soon as you get your hands on the device, you should be able to grab a day-one update that brings a bunch of performance improvements and optimizations.

The update weighs 110MB and as per the changelog, you are getting some improvements to the camera and display screen effect as well as optimizations to the screen sliding effect and sound effect during calls.

The same update also fixes other known issues and, as expected from a first-time software update, improves system stability. Below is a screengrab of the full changelog.

FYI, the OnePlus 7T comes preinstalled with OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10. To quote a Google tweet that was quickly deleted after tweeting it on the day the phone was unveiled, the 7T is “the first device to ship with Android 10 and Google’s apps and services.”

Clearly, that was a dig aimed at Huawei and the Mate 30 series for its lack of Google apps and services despite running Android 10 out of the box. Nice try, Google!
