LG smartphones aren’t able to make headlines for many reasons. First and foremost, there’s a lack of innovation from the brand itself & the existing customers aren’t motivated to upgrade their devices.
Another problem with the LG devices is the slow security and firmware update roll out which has a major impact on the customer base. People now look for brands that provide both the above-mentioned features while looking for a new smartphone.
The impact can be clearly seen on the LG mobile sales, as according to an official report from LG, the company saw a sales decline by almost 21% YoY for Q2 2019 as compared to Q2 2018.
In the long haul, this could prove to be the main reason for the downfall as in another report by Counterpoint Research, the company is lagging behind in providing updates to their devices. Merely 16% of LG smartphones sold after Q3 2018 (till Q2 2019) are running on the Android 9 Pie.
But, what could be a huge sigh of relief for the LG users is that the T-Mobile & AT&T variants of the LG G8 ThinQ are reportedly receiving the September 2019 security updates. Talking about the update received on the T-Mobile variant of the G8 ThinQ, users have confirmed about it.
The latest update carries the build number PKQ1.181203.001 and software version G820TM10o. It brings in the latest September 2019 security patch update for the device. You can check out the screenshot and the official changelog of the update below shared by one of the users:

AT&T has also rolled out the September 2019 security update for the LG G8 ThinQ smartphone. It carries the version number G820UM10n and weighs 237MB in size. The update has the baseband number PKQ1.181203.001 and brings in the latest security patch.

Keep in mind, that the updates are often rolled out in batches and may take some time to reach your device. So, you have to be patient and let the update arrive on your device via OTA.
If you have not received this update on either you T-Mobile or AT&T LG G8 ThinQ then, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings>>About Phone>>System Updates>>Update. If there is any update, you will be notified of it and you can tap it to install the latest update on your device.
Unlike T-Mobile & AT&T, the Sprint LG G8 ThinQ units got the August security patch update few days back. Earlier this month, LG rolled out the Android 10 based second beta update for the G8 ThinQ, however, there’s no ETA for the release date of the stable update.
Looking at other OEMs that are rolling up their sleeves for releasing Android 10 for their devices, it does not seem to be the case with LG. Neither LG was amongst the first brands to roll out the Android 9 Pie update for its devices, nor it is expected to come up with any surprise with the Android 10.
We will keep you in the loop if we have more information in this regards.
