If there is one Android OEM that still has faith on the dying genre of tablets, it is Samsung. Google has this big plan of merging Android with Chrome OS, and they already favored the latter for their current gen tablet aka Pixel Slate. But the Korean OEM gives us no sign of stepping aside from the tablet business.
PiunikaWeb readers should remember about the Call & Message Continuity feature that is helpful for achieving a seamless experience between your primary smartphone and the (secondary) tablet. Moreover, DeX is the trump card of Samsung to make tablets relevant again.
The company also launched Galaxy Tab S6 – a flagship tablet – a few days ago. The mighty Snapdragon 855 chipset, built-in stylus support, optional LTE and overall premium build quality made the device a lucrative package.
Samsung pushed a number of software updates for the tablet even before retail release, and looks like they are now ready with a new one. It is Verizon, who is currently rolling out the day-one update for Galaxy Tab S6 with the build number ASI2. The security patch level is August 2019.
Tagged as ‘System Update 1’, the OTA brings improvements for the Verizon Messages+ app. The big red wireless carrier recently pushed the long-anticipated One UI update for Samsung Galaxy Tab A (10.5), so guess they are trying to get rid of the practice of delaying software updates.
Matter of fact, Verizon recently pushed new monthly security patches for legacy Samsung tablets such as Galaxy Tab S3 and S4. Believe it or not, the age old Galaxy Tab S2 (9.7) is also getting new patchset from the carrier.
The Verizon branded Galaxy Tab S2 was launched with Android Marshmallow, and eventually upgraded to Nougat. The Snapdragon 652 powered oldie got its last security patch back in February (build number BSBD).
Well, the System Update 9 brings August patch (why not September?) via software version BSIF.
This is not the first time Samsung updating their legacy products. For example, some regional variants of 3 years old Galaxy S7/S7 Edge recently received September security patches out of the blue.
