The gone are the days Chinese products lagged behind the competition. Just because of the manufacturing country, people treated them as third-class goods. Fast forward to today, they realised even Apple has manufacturing plants in China.
Speaking of Chinese gadget ventures, we can’t overlook Huawei. They managed to snatch the second position in global smartphone market from Apple like a bolt from the blue. Despite all, the OEM is going through the worst of their times at present, due to the tussle with the US Government.
Huawei has a wide spectrum of devices ranging from low-end to flagship. When it comes to flagships, they have two lineups- P and Mate. Akin to what Samsung does with their Note series, the Shenzhen tech titan releases Mate phones with bigger form factor.
What about the P series? Well, it resembles Samsung’s S lineup. Every year the brand launches a P smartphone with flagship specifications. As expected, P30/ P30 Pro hit the market this year.
It’s obvious, isn’t it? P20 is the predecessor of P30. Packing in strong innards like HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset coupled with up to 6 GB of RAM, it didn’t disappoint users in the beginning. Has the story been changed now?
A post on the official Huawei UK Community says so. Daunting are the dozens of comments at the bottom. In case you are a P20/ P20 Pro user, you can relate to this. Read the forum post below.
Scrolling down, you can see the same concern from many. Not only does the scanner overheat, but has gone completely out of order. When you turn the phone off, the overheating issue settles down. It is not quite possible for anyone to keep their smartphone turned off for ever.
So, many customers brought their devices to the official service centers. Guess what? Nobody could repair it under warranty. Every comment (coming from those who contacted the brand) says that the company accused them of misusing the gadget. Read one such concern below.
Hi, I have the same problem. A week ago I updated my P20 Pro to EMUI 9.1, all good until a few hours passed, then the fingerprint button started to have a very high temperature, you couldn’t even put your finger for a few seconds.
I took it to my mobile company’s store since it is under warranty and they say that since it has a small scratch (literally less than 1cm) on the part of the button they don’t want to fix it if I don’t pay € 200.
If you route to Twitter, you can find people with the same issue there as well. It looks like the problem started spreading after EMUI 9.1 update. It’s been a month (check the timestamp of the Tweet from the image given below) and Huawei hasn’t addressed the bug yet.
Fingerprint scanner-related hassles aren’t new to P20 users (Even P10 suffered once and received the fix through an update). Last year, the option to configure the fingerprint had vanished from the phone altogether. Even if an update brought it back, the functioning wasn’t as smooth as it used to be.
