With 2019’s ZenFone 6 (sold as Asus 6Z in India), Asus is trying to get rid of the resource-heavy Zen UI skin. Their current implementation is somewhat close to stock Android, but tweaked with small-but-useful features here and there. I would say Motorola’s firmware and Android One are their inspirations.
Sony is another OEM who is going through the same level of transformations. The former Xperia UI had a distinct visual overhaul from vanilla Android, but they tuned it up. The current one is substantially lighter, albeit full of Xperia exclusive apps and services.
Another way to get the taste of AOSP on your Xperia device is to opt for the Open Devices initiative. The Japanese OEM recently shared necessary goodies to build Android 10 for a bunch of Xperia phones by yourself. TBH, the main target audience is the developers, but regular users can participate too.
Talking about Xperia XZ3, we are still not sure when Sony will deliver the actual Android 10 update for the phone. The OEM has no shortage of delivering periodic security patches though, as the global variant got August patch during the mid of last month.
The Japanese variant of Xperia XZ3 (model number SO-01L), sold via NTT Docomo, recently received the September patch with build number 52.0.B.9.249. Guess what? This is the time for the international units.
As you can see, the version number scheme is slightly different. A bump from 52.0.A.8.131 to 52.0.A.8.157 indicates minor changes, but we can spot some glitches from the Xperia XZ3 owners since this particular update.
Problem with last update
Phone app since last update don’t drop notifications even after call log seen.
Re: Problem with last update
Me too! Notifications won’t slide down anymore, and the left side button (next to home) no longer functions. Also, my google calendar isn’t updating properly. All at once since the update. Will there be a fix?

Clearing app data can be a solution for this misbehaving notifications glitch, but the exact reason is still unknown. If you encounter the bug after installing the September update on your Xperia XZ3, don’t forget to comment below.
