In pursuit of maximising the screen to body ratio, brands had to give up a few things. They did come up with motorised solutions to accommodate the selfie camera. Notification LEDs couldn’t find its way back yet.

Let’s take OnePlus’s case. Starting from OnePlus 6T, they didn’t care about notification LED. Even though there are a few third-party apps available to fill the gap left by the notification light, nothing seems to have satisfied the users. Maybe, that’s why OnePlus released Horizon Light for 7 Pro.

For starters, Horizon Light is OnePlus’s way of letting users know of incoming notifications without a dedicated LED. When you receive a notification, it just lights up the edges. Maybe, OnePlus 6T and 7 users will receive this feature in the near future (maybe not!).

OnePlus 7 Pro is the brand’s most premium offering at present (which is going to change on 26 September). Unlike any other phone the OEM launched, it flaunts a curved display with 90 Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, it packs in Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset coupled with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage. The motorised pop-up camera on the front helped OnePlus achieve an 88.1% screen to body ratio. Apart from all these, the device holds the feat of being the first OnePlus smartphone to receive Android 10 stable update.

Owing to the beta builds the company rolled out earlier, one might think the public version is devoid of bugs. It is true to a great extent as the OTA didn’t bring any major issues. Not completely true because we spotted many with broken Horizon Light!

To recall, it was the same with the beta builds as well. But with developer preview, the feature worked flawlessly. Users thought the brand would revoke the functionality by the time the stable version hit the units. Nonetheless, it doesn’t appear so.

Of course, it is handy having something to bring your attention to the unseen notifications. With notification LEDs gone, Horizon Light turned out to be the real deal. And, the latest update removed that too.

OnePlus hasn’t released any official statement addressing the issue yet. If and when that happens, we will edit this story.
