[Stable arrives] LG Stylo 4 Android Pie (9.0) update nearing release as beta testing expands in the U.S.

LG is the last of the major smartphone vendors you should think of when shopping for a device that regularly receives timely software updates. For perspective, LG is only beaten by Alcatel and Tecno Mobile to the crown of the worst vendor when it comes to rolling out software updates.

That’s not great coming from one of the biggest consumer tech companies in the world, but it’s happening and it probably won’t be coming to an end anytime soon. Case in point is the rollout to Android 9 Pie for various LG devices.

While the likes of Google Pixel and Pixel XL from 2016 are already running Android 10, LG is still struggling with rolling out Android Pie updates to its recent flagships. The LG G6, for instance, is still testing the beta version of Pie more than a year since the OS went live.

Last week, the stable version of Android Pie arrived on the LG V30 in multiple markets, including on Verizon’s variant in the United States of America.

If you still own the LG V20, the update to Pie is still coming, but like the LG G6, we can’t guarantee when exactly the rollout will begin. The story is more of the same with the LG Stylo 4 aka LG Q Stylo 4, a budget device from June 2018.

The LG Stylo 4 Android Pie update is being tested as of this writing. The procedure, though, is being carried out on model Q710ULS, the one sold via Spectrum Mobile.

Elsewhere, there’s model Q710MS on MetroPCS and Cricket Wireless; Q710ULM on U.S. Cellular/Unlocked; Q710WA on AT&T; L713DL on TracFone; and Q710TS on T-Mobile, but this Pie beta isn’t for these variants.

Still, they should receive the stable Android Pie version when it arrives, God knows when.

If you feel geeky enough and you own the Spectrum Mobile variant, the LG Stylo 4 Android Pie update firmware is available to download as version V19c. FYI, the Pie beta update for the U.S. unlocked Stylo 4 is also available to try as version V18a.

The LG Stylo 4 is powered by Android Oreo out of the box, which makes the update to Android 9 Pie the first major OS upgrade. In case you didn’t know, this should be the one and only OS upgrade for this device. We will let you know when the stable rollout begins.
