Xiaomi and the incredible Xiaomi Mi A1 should be credited for single-handedly picking up Android One from its knees and pumping some much-needed fresh air into a great program that wasn’t interesting major smartphone vendors several years ago.
Sure, Motorola also released its first Android One smartphone, the Moto X4, around the same time as the Mi A1, but this variant of the X4 was limited to the North American market. The rest of the world got a variant with Motorola’s custom skin on top of Android.
Upon realizing that this was a huge mistake, the Lenovo-owned company quickly introduced its own line of smartphones with a focus on Android One, you know, just like Xiaomi. The Moto One, One Power, One Vision, and One Action have since followed suit.
This month, Motorola released another Android One device called Moto One Zoom. As the name suggests, the major highlight is the quad-lens main camera setup with up to 10x hybrid zoom.
The setup has a main 48MP lens allied to a 16MP ultra-wide lens, 8MP zoom lens, and a 5MP depth-sensing lens all housed by a square in an elongated module, a departure from the circular camera modules on recent Motorola phones.
If you’ve already picked up one of these, we have some mixed news for you. While it always feels great to receive the first software update on a phone, you might not like the fact that for the Moto One Zoom, it’s an older update.
Motorola One Zoom first update contains stability improvements & the august security patch. The size: 255 Mb.

As if mocking the entire Android One premise, Motorola is rolling out a Moto One Zoom software update that installs last month’s Android security patch. The update has software version PPH29.59-34.
The new update, which is arriving over the air, weighs in at 255MB and as per the changelog, you also get system stability improvements, which is typical for first-time software updates for any device.
If there are any other small issues, this update should also iron them out. Unfortunately, it’s still disturbing that Motorola is rolling out August patches to a brand new Android One device a little over a week before the end of September.
At this rate, God knows when the September patch will arrive. Hopefully, though, the next update bundles both September and October security patches into a single rollout.
