[Now rolling out] Huawei Mate 20 & Honor 20 series EMUI 10/Magic UI 3.0 beta recruitment begins, more devices invited too

The U.S. trade ban started hitting hard following the launch of the Huawei Mate 30 series. We all know the company is in bad books with the American government and this has denied it access to core Google services with respect to the popular Android OS.

The new Mate 30 phones don’t have Google Apps and Services like Gmail and Play Store despite running EMUI 10 based on Android 10. Instead, the Mate 30 has Huawei’s App Gallery posing as the new Google Play Store.

Amidst all that, Huawei is doing its best to calm down current owners of Huawei and Honor devices. The company has been quite open with its plans to roll out EMUI 10 based on Android 10 to multiple devices despite the wrangles with Google’s home country.

Soon after the search started rolling out the stable version of Android 10, Huawei revealed its official EMUI 10 plans as well. Earlier this month, the company started recruiting EMUI 10 public beta testers for Huawei P30 and P30 Pro in China.

It wasn’t long before the global beta recruitment program for the same devices also went live. Perhaps out of excitement, someone at Huawei gave out the EMUI 10 changelog ahead of the beta release, which went live a couple or so days later.

A week after the first public EMUI 10 beta went live for P30 and P30 Pro owners, the company is opening the same door for those using any of these phones:

• Huawei Mate 20
• Huawei Mate 20 Pro
• Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design
• Huawei Mate 20 X (4G)
• Honor View 20
• Honor 20
• Honor 20 Pro
• Honor Magic 2

Just so you know, Honor devices will receive Android 10 with what Huawei calls Magic UI 3.0 and like the previous version, we expect pretty much the same thing as EMUI 10 with a few tweaks here and there.

To be eligible for the EMUI 10 update, you must have installed at least EMUI 9.1.0.135 on any of your Mate 20 variant that is eligible to try Android 10. For those using the Honor 20 and 20 Pro, you’ll need at least firmware version 9.1.0.152 pre-installed.

As for the Honor V20 and Magic 2, versions 9.1.0.233/234 and 9.1.0.222/225/226, respectively, will be required before being enrolled into the new Android 10 beta program. But once again, all models involved here are for the Chinese market, including the Mate 20 and Honor 20 series.

As usual, the slots available are limited to two batches of 500 and 1,500 for each device. This means that each device will accommodate 2,000 beta testers in the long run. The recruitment window ends on September 24 at 24:00 Beijing time.

Update 1 (September 26)

The first Magic UI 3.0 beta build based on Android 10 is now available in China for owners of the Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor V20 and Honor Magic 2. Full details here.
