Realme X September security update adds swipe left or right to dismiss notifications, new alarm function, & more

Ever since Android Pie, swiping gestures seem to have taken over and with Android 10, Google further added new navigation gestures by getting rid of the back button and replacing it with side-swipes (from left or right) to go back to the previous page/window.

Honestly, not everyone is a fan of the new navigation system and Google knows that too, which is why they included the option to revert to the old-school 3-button navigation system in Android 10. But it’s pretty obvious gestures are the in-thing and definitely the new direction.

Thanks to the nature of Android, some device makers didn’t waste time in bringing the new Android 10 gestures to their Android Pie-powered handsets. One example is Oppo subsidiary Realme, which gave users of the Realme 3 Pro a taste of the new gestures with the June security update.

It’s never easy going down a new road, but if you own the Realme 3 Pro and would like to try out the new gestures, this is a good place to start from.

More recently, the same device received new gestures, this time in the notification shade. The gestures, which came as part of the September security update for the Chinese variant of the Realme 3 Pro, allow for swiping left or right to dismiss notifications.

As of this writing, this same feature is now making its way to the Realme X sold in the same region. The new swipe gestures are arriving as part of the latest September security update.

The update, which is airborne, bumps the software version to RMX1901_11.A.18 and as you can see from the screengrab below, the changelog is pretty packed with a bunch of new features and optimizations as well.

The changelog is in Chinese, but Google Translate has given us a vague translation of what it entails. Besides the new gestures and security patch, the new Realme X software update also introduces a new holiday alarm clock function, an updated battery page, and support for more languages.

After the update, you also get adjustments to the display screen brightness where it changes more smoothly in the low backlight brightness range as well as some battery optimizations when in camera mode and instant messaging.

The new Realme X update has been confirmed in China, but there is still no word on when it will show up on the Indian variants. Still, the wait shouldn’t be long now that the update is out there.
