With the incorporation of Realme, OPPO is gradually occupying the market segment long-dominated by Xiaomi/Redmi. However, the Chinese tech giant has a handful of stunning mid-rangers in their device portfolio. Take the example of OPPO K1.
Two-tone gradient colored body, dewdrop notch, under-display fingerprint scanner – you can get all those trendy things with a reasonable price tag. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC, which is fairly capable. Moreover, OPPO opted for AMOLED display panel for this budget beast.
The battery capacity is moderately large (3,600 mAh), but the microUSB charging port and the software are the biggest disappointments of OPPO K1. Although the phone was launched during Q4, 2018, OPPO shipped Android Oreo based ColorOS 5.2 out of the box.
FYI, OPPO published a tentative roadmap of the Android Pie based ColorOS 6 rollout plan in mid-August. According to the schedule, OPPO K1 should receive the update in this month (September).
Well well well, this is actually happening right now! OPPO has opened the windows of ColorOS 6 trial (more of a soak testing) for a limited number of volunteers. All you have to do is to enroll via Settings => Software Updates.
The company will allow only 2,000 early adopters for the first round of pilot testing, so you need to hurry up. You need to install the latest A.13 software update before opting for the soak test.
The ColorOS Community app is the sole method of bug reporting, so do provide feedback through the app. The trial version should be very close to be a daily driver, with tons of ColorOS 6 specific goodies. The full changelog is as follows:
