Samsung is the only major Android vendor that is still seriously pushing for a place in the underwhelming tablet market. The company keeps releasing new slates yearly catering to all market segments from the entry-level Tab A and the rugged Tab Active all the way to the premium Tab S.

In keeping them up to date with the latest software updates, the company also does its job. However, I think it’s quite unfair that a premium tablet like the Galaxy Tab S6 and even the Tab S4 don’t get to enjoy monthly security updates and instead they get quarterly updates.

Just this month, quite a number of Samsung tablets have received new software updates. It was just yesterday that we captured Verizon’s Galaxy Tab A (10.5) One UI update alongside new security patches for the Galaxy Tab S4 and Tab S3.

Earlier this week both the Galaxy Tab S3 and Tab A 8.0 from 2017 got their Pie treats. Since the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019), Tab S5e, Tab S6, and Galaxy Tab S4 already have Pie running the show, they had to settle for new security patches.

This is also true for the latest beneficiary to Samsung’s software updates – the Galaxy Tab Active2. Released in late 2017 powered by an Exynos 7870 octa-core processor and running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, the Tab Active2 got its second and last major OS upgrade in June 2019.

The update, as you can see from the screengrab above, brought One UI based on Android 9 Pie to both the Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants of the Tab Active2. Since then, this tablet hasn’t received any software update, at least until this week.

If you own either the Wi-Fi-only or LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab Active2, a new software update is now available to download. The update installs firmware version T390XXU5CSI1 on the former and T395XXU5CSH2 on the latter.

Since the two updates have different firmware versions, it doesn’t surprise that they also bring slightly different changes. While the August patch is included in both updates, the LTE variant’s version packs in more improvements compared to the Wi-Fi-only variant.

· Improved stability – Gallery, Contacts, Camera.
· Wi-Fi connectivity and stability have been improved.
· Bluetooth connectivity and stability has been improved.
· The security of your device has been improved.

As for the Wi-Fi-only variant, the update includes improvements to Bixby, Samsung’s in-house virtual digital assistant.

Besides Italy, the latest Galaxy Tab Active2 software updates are also rolling out in other European countries like the UK, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, Baltic, and Nordic countries.

The updates are airborne, so the wait for the OTA download notification to arrive may take several days, probably well into the weekend, but you’ll get it, eventually.
