[Updated] Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 update with bug fixes for Widevine L1, screen rotation flickering & other glitches arrives

When it comes to Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1/M2 users, August update had been disastrous. Those who installed them sacrificed Widevine L1 certification and obviously, the capability to stream HD videos as well. As a result, few days after the rollout, the company pulled Max Pro M2’s update.

Today, Asus has rolled out another update to Max Pro M2. Many users reported they have received Widevine L1 support back on installing it. Given the same issue tampered the experience of many M1 users, the brand has released an OTA for them too, as promised.

In case you are not aware, Widevine L1 is needed for a device to enable HD streaming. Meaning, you can’t watch videos in high-definition on Prime Video, Netflix, Hotstar or any other services if your phone lacks it.

Cut to the update, it bumps up the firmware version to 16.2017.1908.058. A user posted a long list of fixes and bugs the latest package brings with it, which you can see down below.

Apart from the bugs given above, a user has reported to have been experiencing issues with wake up gestures on lockscreen. For him, swipe up and double tap to wake don’t work. And, we don’t know the extent of this specific bug as of now.

So yeah, you are getting Widevine L1 support back. There was a screen flickering on rotation issue on the device after the previous update. According to a forum post by a moderator, the latest one also addresses the rotation bug.

Seems like they started airing the OTA today only. So, chances are you couldn’t get your hands on it. Just wait until the notification flashes on your screen.

IST: 06:45 pm: Widevine L1 issue has long existed on the Zenfone Max Pro M1 and has become a pain for a lot of users. While the company tried to fix the same via the new Android 10 version .424, some of the users are still facing the issue.

The user reporting the issue downgraded from the Android 10 beta, but the Widevine L1 did not restore. In response, a ZenTalk forum mod suggested visiting an Asus service center to get the issue resolved. Read the full story here.
