So there is this phone from LG called V30, which has virtually unlimited number of variations. Besides the regular European model, LG decided to come up with US carrier specific models. Oh, and don’t forget those ‘Plus’ and ‘Signature edition’ with more RAM and internal storage.
After a small leak of the internal beta build, some regional variants of the 2017’s LG flagship started to receive stable Pie update at the end of July. However, the Korean OEM pulled back the initial build from their servers without any apparent reason.
The shenanigans happened with mostly European LG V30 (model number H930) units, while other carrier branded variants had a silver lining assurance of getting the Pie update. In fact, a beta build of Pie for Canadian V30 surfaced earlier this week.
Well, now comes the good news! Verizon is reportedly pushing the stable Pie update for LG V30 (model number VS996) in the form of System Update 14. Prepare for a big download ahead, as the OTA package is kinda heavy (~2.3 GB).
The internal software version number is now bumped from 20l to 30c. Verizon also skipped the July patch altogether and bundled August patches in this update. Interesting note: the official Verizon update tracker page of LG V30 has not been updated yet.
We are unable to find any firmware package (known as KDZ) at the time of writing this article, so you guys need to wait patiently for the OTA to hit your phones.
LG introduced a bunch of new goodies in their skin on top of the usual Android Pie related stuff. The complete changelog is as follows:
– Home touch buttons with gesture: Swipe up on the Home button to switch to Overview or App drawer. Swipe right to move to the most recently used app.
– Use the Volume keys for media: Changes what the Volume keys adjust by default from ringtone volume to media volume.
– Lockdown option: Puts the phone into the state where biometrics cannot be used, all lock screen notifications are hidden, and Smart Lock turns off.
– Screenshot thumbnail: When a screenshot is taken, its preview is displayed in the bottom right side of the screen in a thumbnail.
