[BREAKING] Realme 3 Pro dark mode finally here with Project X (Realme OS) update

If you ask me to choose one phone from the current portfolio of Realme (stylized as ‘realme’), I would definitely pick Realme 3 Pro. Yes, there are plenty of others with better configurations or unique design (well, popup camera), but look at the software development side of my choice!

Although the company abruptly ended the public beta of Android Q, they did prepare something more interesting. Dubbed as ‘Project X‘, the mysterious development project probably has a strong link with the long-rumored Realme OS.

The phone, which is sold as Realme X Lite in China, already got September security patches and a truckload of new software features in their home country. An alleged copy of the Project X build was also leaked a few days ago, which gave us some early glimpses of the design revamp.

The leaked build was tagged as W.76, and apparently Realme is pushing a new software update on top of it. The version number of the OTA is W.78 which brings plethora of new software features, including the system-wide dark mode!

New features

1. Dark Mode.

2. Five more apps could be cloned: Twitter, Freecharge, Zomato, Swiggy, Snapchat.

3. The cloned apps can be encrypted/unencrypted, independently from the original app.

4. Switch data cardin notification shade.

5. Support option: Swipe down on home screen to open notification center.

6. Support option: update dot doesn’t display on the left side of icon after the app is updated.

7. Hotspot blinking blue bar deleted.

8. Root blinking red bar deleted.

Fix a bug

– Private safe can be accessed from privacy folder without password if you use fingerprint open the privacy folder first.

TBH, the broken English in the above changelog is somewhat uncanny, but I prefer to concentrate on the bright side. We still don’t know whether they included a newer security patch or not, but the dark mode toggle is pretty cool.

Realme uses a mix of AMOLED friendly ‘true’ black and dark grey color palettes while designing the new UI. The functionality of the ‘Smart Dark Mode’ is not very clear, but perhaps they are planning to apply the blackish overlay on unsupported apps via this option (just like EMUI 10).

The Quick Settings panel also got a darker blur effect, but you can spot some graphical glitches in the implementation. Hopefully Realme will continue to refine the UI so that its customers will get a superior experience with the final update.

Unfortunately we couldn’t capture the OTA link yet. Flashing the older build might allow you to download the new update, but don’t take my word for it.
