OnePlus made a pretty hefty announcement yesterday, as they officially acknowledged the shortcomings of the app-killing ‘feature’ of OxygenOS and decided to ‘fix’ it in upcoming updates. They also committed to release the kernel source for each and every published build, including Open Beta.

The unlocked variant of OnePlus 7 Pro set a new record by receiving August security patches before everyone else (including Google Pixel phones). Since then, OnePlus moved their focus towards the new collaboration with Sprint as well as the development of Android 10 based OxygenOS.

Let me guess, perhaps those are the reasons behind the lesser frequency of software updates (no September patch yet!). The T-Mobile branded variant did grab a major bugfix OTA, but there was no sign of August patches in that either.

OnePlus is reportedly pushing a new update for the phone, but the OTA is only applicable to the US unlocked variant of OnePlus 7 Pro (model number GM1917). Hold your horses, cause the build is still based on August security patches.

As you can see, the changelog mentions nothing but support for Verizon Visible – a MVNO from the big red carrier. That’s the exact reason why the OTA (OxygenOS 9.5.13) is not available across Europe or in India, because the changes are virtually uncorrelated in these regions.

Due to the internal mechanism of the OxygenOS OTA, end users can sideload this build on non-US phones. They should not expect any kind of improvement though, but hey! Running the latest software has its own charm.

FYI, this is not the first time OnePlus prepares an exclusive build to address a particular carrier related issue. Back in May, the Shenzhen based company pushed an hotfix (OxygenOS 9.5.6) for the same US unlocked variant of OnePlus 7 Pro to address a calling issue with Verizon.

Thanks to our collaboration with the Oxygen Updater project, the download link of the full update package can be found below. I would suggest to go for the flashing only if you are running the US unlocked model of OnePlus 7 Pro, but crossflashing won’t harm your phone.
