Akin to Samsung, Huawei and basically any other Android smartphone vendor competing with these two big names, Oppo and Xiaomi thrive in the industry by virtue of pumping countless phones into the market whenever they feel like.
Unless you are a mobile tech enthusiast like yours truly, keeping track of these phones can be an uphill task. Equally, keeping track of if and when the same devices receive software updates can be an even more daunting task, which is why we are here to do it for you because we enjoy it!
For instance, as of this writing, the device above, the Redmi 7A, which is an understudy to the popular Redmi Note 7 family, is receiving a new software update that brings August 2019 security patches.
The Redmi 7A August update arrives at a time when its predecessor, the Redmi 6A, is receiving an update that installs the newest September security patch based on Android 9 Pie. But if it makes you feel better, the Redmi 7A isn’t the only Xiaomi device to receive an older patch in recent times.
Just recently, the Mi 9 in China got updated to July security patch after the Mi 8, Mi 9 SE and Mi MIX 2S got updated to August security patch at the tailend of last month. The August patch also arrived on the Redmi Note 7 and Mi Play at about the same time, just to name but a few.
For Redmi 7A owners using the global ROM, the new update is arriving as MIUI 10.2.6.0.PCMMIXM and as expected, it’s based on Android Pie. The changelog doesn’t go beyond the updated security patch, but we do believe bug fixes and performance improvements are also included in the update.
