During last few days, Xiaomi had multiple ‘false starts’ regarding MIUI 11. While the regular Redmi K20 Pro was getting Android 10 update, the OEM pushed the next generation MIUI to a bunch of phones. Although the initial release was rather superficial, they rolled out a somewhat real thing yesterday.
Call it a server side glitch or mere accident, Xiaomi already gave us plenty of toys (related to software update) to play with. The Mi Pilot initiative, for example, is a straight away replacement of the global beta program. Interested users can register there and have the opportunity to tinker with unreleased builds.
Well, there is another way to fiddle with unfinished, work-in-progress software, but it is completely random. For example, Xiaomi rolled out the stable Android Pie update for Redmi 6/6A about a month ago. They had to pull them back due to numerous issues, and release an Oreo based August patch.
FYI, Xiaomi re-released the Oreo update for 2017’s Redmi 5A five months after cancelling the initial OTA. The Chinese OEM is now presenting the stable Pie update for global Redmi 6A units once again (no Redmi 6 yet) in a similar fashion, although the gap between the release events is much shorter this time.
Xiaomi is reportedly pushing both incremental and full update packages, so that users can safely migrate to the stable Pie build without further complexities. The version number (MIUI 10.4.3.0) is not inline with the Chinese release, while September patch is here as a bonus.
Given the previous track record of the company, I would suggest Redmi 6A answers to wait a little before jumping on the Pie bandwagon. Let Xiaomi release the equivalent software update for Redmi 6 as well, and monitor our articles about potential bugs in the release.
The Chinese OEM also included Digital Wellbeing in this build. The upcoming MIUI 11 update should feature this tool out of the box, but Redmi 6A users can access it from Settings even in Pie based MIUI 10.
As always, the full update package is listed below. Credit goes to yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for tracking the OTA update URL.
