OnePlus fans were tickled pink when some OnePlus Support guys ‘accidentally’ confirmed the release date of Android 10 based OxygenOS. Same day as Google Pixel phones – could it be done? Well, they really did it, albeit in the form of the first Open Beta update for OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

Although the release window between the Developer Preview 5 and the Open Beta was extremely small, the Shenzhen based OEM delivered tons of new software features in the update. Be it full-fledged navigational gestures or dedicated Game Space, they tried to make the package almost like a daily driver.

Well, end of the day it’s a beta release. Not all apps are compatible with Android 10 yet, especially banking or similar financial apps. They rely on a bunch of internal APIs to measure the system integrity, thus the failure rate should be quite high. But what about ending up with ‘Qualcomm CrashDump Mode’?

In layman’s term, this dreaded situation is analogous to the (in)famous “Blue Screen of Death” aka BSOD in Windows. This special mode is slightly different from typical kernel panics in the *nix world, as the stop code is actually originated from the low level firmware designed by Qualcomm.

Keeping aside further technical details, a lot of OnePlus 7 (Pro) owners are facing this error after installing the first Open Beta based on Android 10. Sometimes a forced reboot can revive the phone, but some unfortunate users are now stuck with a virtually bricked device in their hands.

Hi guys,

so a few hours after having installed the android 10 open beta on my 7 Pro it crashed and the Qualcomm crashdump mode comes up.

It doesn’t give many details regarding what’s going on and I can do is reboot the device.

This has happened twice in a single day. ( while using the official Twitter app)

Any suggestions?

thanks!

OnePlus does provide official downgrade package(s) so that beta users can revert back to stable Pie based OxygenOS 9.5.x anytime. But if the phone is stuck in this ‘CrashDump’ mode, there is no way to use them.

Fortunately there exists a semi-official way to unbrick your precious phone. OnePlus support has access to a special kind of flashing package that can bring back your device from the land of dead. We’ve discussed about the method here in details so that you can fix it without wasting your time dealing with support tickets and such.

Remember, this aforementioned method does not preserve your data. You should understand the risks while playing with beta builds on your daily driver, so don’t do the same mistake over and over.
