After Luffy’s first encounter with Kaido, he realized that the level of power he has now is not enough to defeat him. Even in his gear 3 and gear 4, he was barely able to inflict minimal to no damage at all. But it does not dismiss his resolve to destroy Kaido.
While imprisoned in Udon, he discovered a Ryuo, an advanced form of armament haki which serves as a body extension entering the enemies body and destroying them from the inside.
In chapter 954, we can see Luffy trying to master this new power under the supervision of yakuza boss Hyogoro who taught him the principle of Ryuo. The question is, would that be enough to win the impending war?
Kaido is not called the strongest creature in the world for nothing. Even he can’t kill himself. However, another upgrade in play gives us a hint that Luffy may not be alone in taking down Kaido.
Zoro finally accepted Princess Hiyori’s proposal to exchange sword-god Ryuma’s Shisui, with her father’s Meito Enma, the ‘legendary sword said to be the only blade that has ever injured Kaido’. Upon hearing this, I’m pretty sure Zoro would like to test its validity himself.
Unlike Luffy’s other fights, he may not get Kaido all to himself, given the number of people in Wano who wants to take down Kaido. Not to mention Big Mom is also in Wano and is hungry for revenge against Luffy.
The rest of the Big Mom pirates may also make an appearance in the following chapters making things more complicated. Who knows, maybe Luffy will have to fight Big Mom instead of Kaido.
