Samsung Galaxy M20 August security update rolls out; Galaxy Theme & One UI Home app also updated

Samsung had never been luckier with their under $300 smartphones. Even as a company with the maximum sales numbers in total, their budget devices used to disappoint the users. However, they decided and somewhat succeeded in changing this scenario with their ‘M’ series.

Including M10, M20, M30, and M40, the series caters to different demographics in terms of price (around $100 to $300) and specifications. Though they still can’t compete head-to-head with the Chinese manufacturers, these smartphones helped Samsung build a loyal budget focused user-base

Owing to booming digital literacy, people started choosing gadgets based on the OTA delivery frequency of brands. Samsung also releases security updates often (not the fastest in the market, clearly!). Yesterday, we saw them consecutively firing up two to M30.

A few days before that, they bumped up M40’s security patch to August. As the month is sitting on the verge of expiry, M20 users may have given up the thought of receiving the latest security update in time. But hey, brace yourself, as Samsung has finally pushed August patch to M20.

The OEM launched the phone in January 2019 with Android 8.1 Oreo. It already bagged Pie update with One UI. As for the innards, M20 packs in an Exynos 7904 processor coupled with 3/ 4 GB RAM.

As for August update, we couldn’t locate a screenshot of the changelog. For the same reason, the other features accompanying the security improvements are unknown at this moment. We will update this story whenever we get to see the changelog.

With the build number M205GDXS2BSH2, the update hasn’t gone global yet. Users from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines managed to grab it so far. We expect the worldwide rollout to happen pretty soon.

It’s also being reported that Samsung has updated two of their in-house applications – Galaxy Themes and One UI Home – as well. The former helps the users attain a complete facelift by personalizing wallpapers, icons, interfaces, and design elements.

One UI is Samsung’s custom skin over Android. The update fixes some bugs and brings other improvements. It looks like you won’t be getting any new features, though.

Didn’t get the update? No, the service center guys are not going to fetch it for you. Patience is the key to securing OTA overhauls as they go out in clusters. They may be releasing the patch region-wise, and the notification will soon flash on your screen.
