We have been hearing about pollution for quite some time now. It’s no secret that the rate of contamination has been increasing on the planet. With the rapid growth in the number of smartphone users, we now have a specific section to deal with, e-wastes.
Even you can recollect an own experience of throwing out a defective gadget, can’t you? Materials like cadmium and mercury in them never decays fast but instead, troubles the environment. Some of you may know this. Still we dispose them out into the nature!
A Dutch company, Fairphone has launched their third generation sustainable smartphone yesterday to combat the accumulation of e-wastes. Before you delve into more, we have a warning. Don’t expect this device to drop your jaw in terms of specifications!
Fairphone 3 effectively deals with fragile areas like pollution, employ satisfaction, supply chain, and sustainability rather than offering ground-breaking features. Made out of conflict-free materials (recycled plastic, copper, etc), the device is marketed as one that cares for people and planet.
If you love to contribute to a noble cause at the cost of adorning specs, you will never find it awkward to spend EUR 450 for Fairphone 3. The device is available for preorder on the company website. They will start shipping the same in October.
Are you still curious about the innards? Well, the phone carries a Snapdragon 632 chipset under the hood with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The screen measures 5.65-inch in size and boasts full HD+ resolution.
As for the optics, this dual SIM device houses a single 12 MP sensor (we know what you are thinking, but as we said, this one isn’t for spec savvy people) on the back and an 8 MP one up front for selfies. Running on Android 9 Pie, it retains 3.5-mm headphone jack and other major connectivity options.
Apart from the environmental friendliness, Fairphone 3 consists of 7 modules. In case you damage the handset, replacing a module isn’t as difficult as it is for other phones because the parts are officially available for purchase. They have a lucrative 40 euro (subject to vary) cash back offer when you recycle your old phone with them on buying Fairphone 3.
To recall, the company released their second generation model three years ago. I know you’ll agree with me if I say a smartphone with no OTA updates is absurd. Does Fairphone followup their earlier model with security updates?
Well, the recent reports says they do. They just started rolling out August patch for Fairphone 2. Regrettably, the Android version remains the same though. It’s 7.1.1 Nougat.
We will let you know when these devices get other OTA updates. Stay tuned to keep yourself notified.
