This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..
Motorola, once a Google’s possession, used to release OTA updates on time. Without users constantly taunting the company, update notifications would flash on their device screens. But gone are those days.
In the last few years, their reputation has gone past the worst. Moto phones couldn’t keep up with the outburst of value for money Chinese smartphones. And, Lenovo’s reluctance to release timely security patches added fuel to the fire.
Fast forward to today, we think the OEM has reconsidered their decision. The incessant thread of phones that keep on receiving August security patches proclaims so! It’s only yesterday they started releasing August security build for Verizon-branded Moto Z4. Accompanying the same is the June patch for Moto Z2 Play.
Not only those, a few days ago, Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 Plus got June, July updates respectively. Exactly a day before, we happened to know the arrival of Moto Z3 Play’s July patch. So, do these sound like the old Motorola?
The latest to the list is Moto X4, with its August security overhaul. To recall, the same phone got July update a few days ago.
Before you march onto checking for software updates on your Moto X4, you need to know one thing. They haven’t released this OTA package for all the Moto X4s; only for those running on Android One US Edition.
Despite lifting the security patch up to 1 August 2019, it doesn’t bring any new features. For the same reason, you can expect the package to be a light one.
While all these update affairs happen around the globe, Indian users are exasperated with the company. They couldn’t bag even a single patch after March 2019. It appears even the recently released July update didn’t reach their phones.
Examining the latest turnarounds, we think, the OEM will not keep users waited for so long. As the streak of updates goes on surfacing, everyone will get their fair shares. We can’t swear on the freshness of the security patch, though (you may get a month-old one).
A significant number of non-Android One Moto X4 users are in queue as well. For those who gathered July patch and eager to move onto August, nothing can set you at peace right now. Wait to get the chords struck.
In the meantime, you can check our Motorola section quite often to keep yourself notified about the recent updates.
Update 1 (August 28)
The Amazon Prime variant of Moti X4 is also getting the August security update now.
