Xiaomi is rolling out a new software update for owners of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, one of several handsets the company spun off the 2018 flagship Xiaomi Mi 8. Other variants are Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 Explorer, and the Mi 8 SE.

The Mi 8 Lite OTA update is arriving as MIUI 10.3.5.0 and installs the latest August 2019 security patch, fixes bugs and improves performance of the device, but there’s more to this update, which weighs 246MB.

Xiaomi is expected to unveil the next iteration of its MIUI skin in a few days to come. In fact, the OS is already available for Xiaomi Mi 9 users in China and guess what, we already have the download links for those who’d wish to try the OS on their Mi 9 sets.

Dubbed MIUI 11, the new skin will adopt most of what Android 10 has to offer the Android fraternity, much like MIUI 10 tagged along plenty of Android Pie-related stuff.

Naturally, one would expect the company’s attention to be directed to the launch of Android 10, but this hasn’t been the case for Xiaomi. Over the recent past, we’ve seen quite a good number of Android Pie-related software updates rolling out to different devices.

Plenty of software updates have been raining for owners of Xiaomi Mi A3, Xiaomi Mi 6 & Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, Xiaomi Mi A1, and now Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite.

The Mi 8 Lite update is airborne and is targeting the global variant of the handset. Besides the new security patch, owners of this device can finally lock Google Contacts app using the system app lock feature.

BTW, App Lock isn’t a new feature in MIUI 10, only that Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite users have been missing it when it comes to protecting the Google Contacts app. With the new update, this shortcoming has now been addressed, so be sure to grab it once the OTA shows up.

If the OTA has yet to hit your Mi 8 Lite device, it should be there pretty soon. We haven’t come across the download file for manual installation, but we should update this post when we do. Still, waiting for the OTA notification may save you all the unnecessary hassles.
